Installing V-Ray 5 – Trinity3dTV Tutorials

Trinity3dTV has made a couple of new video tutorials for those Installing V-Ray 5 for the first time.

As is true with most studios around today, Trinity Animation and Trinity 3D owes a lot to the larger 3D Art and Animation industry and is always looking for ways to give back to the community. Whether that is offering free models or running a local get-together for other professionals, it is both gratifying and fun to do what we can for the rest of the computer graphics world. One of the best ways to give back is to offer some of the considerable technical and artistic knowledge Trinity3D and the Trinity Animation team has gathered over the years.

To that end, and knowing that V-Ray 5 for 3ds Max has just launched, Trinity Animation Artist Reece Schultz put together a little video going those first daunting steps to getting up and running with the advanced 3d software- Installing it! Believe it or not, while installing something like 3ds Max can be as simple as pressing a button and watching a progress bar fill for a few minutes, installing something like V-Ray can actually have some surprising hiccups! For one thing, V-Ray isn’t really a standard program, while it has stand-alone features, the main program is what’s called a plug-in. A plug-in, unlike other applications, is a tool that is used within another application, in this case, 3ds Max. On top of that, V-Ray is a service, and as such Chaos Group requires that other tools be installed in order to make sure the program’s account is valid and up-to-date.

These distinctions can unfortunately lead to some issues or confusion on install time. And the last thing anyone wants when trying to make the kind of beautiful art V-Ray is capable of is technical issues! If you’re new to V-Ray or similar rendering plug-ins, do yourself a favor and check out these videos and follow along with a professional, you’ll be making stunning work in no-time!
